It wasn’t until David Stagl’s free trial of Dynamic Grading expired that he realised just how much it had been helping his tracks. In fact, the mix engineer was so impressed he felt compelled to share his experience in this recent video.
The result is one of the most explanatory and engaging demonstrations of Dynamic Grading we’ve seen. David puts the plugin to work on bass and piano tracks, showcasing its unique approach compared to traditional compressor plugins. He walks through the histograms and explains its three components – Punch, Body and Floor – demonstrating how they shape the sound.
“Without this plugin, it’s like the bass just falls out, the piano disappears. [This plugin] was helping a lot more than I realised. […] When I turn it off, I just feel like the energy from the low end, that foundation, it’s just gone. It just falls apart.”
He concludes… “For me, this lets me approach a challenge in mixing in a way I haven’t been able to approach things before. […] I’m just really digging this thing.”
One final note, David purchased Dynamic Grading when his free trial expired, we had no influence in the making of his insightful video. Check it out below and then why not download the free trial and test it on your own tracks…
